I am by no means a movie critic. I have just seen the movie a couple of times over the past 3 ¾ years and would like to state my opinion on the movie. This is a comedy and kiddie kind of movie, so don’t take my opinion 100%.
“After the Krabby Patty formula inconspicuously disappears Bikini Bottom has no more Krabby Patties, so SpongeBob and Plankton must go on a journey to find how it went missing.”
The story takes place in Bikini Bottom in the year 2015 (I guess that was never released.) Our main characters are Plankton, Mr. Krabs, Karen, Patrick, Spongebob, Sandy, Gary (he gets about six and a half minutes of screen time) and Squidward. These characters aren’t anything new, but they do add just a little to the plot. Krabs thinks Plankton stole the formula, Karen helps build the time machine, Patrick and the rest all get amazing powers on land.
The voice actors for all of the characters remain the same and don’t do anything new, HOWEVER, a couple of new characters are introduced. There is a dolphin named Bubbles in a white void who is in charge of the planets, and well, he’s rather, interesting, but that’s about it. There are seagulls and a captain who bring more to the story while on land, but that’s it.
My favorite part has to be Plankton and the others working together while on land. That’s something you don’t see every day. With his powers, he becomes Plank-TON, pun intended. Other things that made me smile are the little moments with just Plankton and Spongebob in the time machine which is very nice.
However, every movie has to have a boring or bad part and that award goes to the very pointless dolphin scene. The bit with the planet watching dolphin feels very dull and adds very little to nothing to the plot.
The ‘lesson’ learned from this movie was you should never point fingers if you don’t know it to be true. Plankton is known for trying to steal the recipe, but us, the viewers saw that it just disappeared out of Spongebob and Plankton’s hands. So never assume unless you know it to be 101% true.
The MPAA rating for this film is PG, and I strongly suspect that ten year olds would love this movie. It’s childish, funny, and charming, but when you think about it, no one is too old for SpongeBob. This movie is always fun to watch, and I wouldn’t mind seeing it again.
This movie’s got a lot of childish humor that made me giggle when I was 10 years old, but a little bit of filler. That alone won’t stop me from liking it, but we’ve seen Bikini Bottom without Krabby Patties before and although it brings new stuff, you can’t ignore this small hole in this otherwise perfect movie.
I gave it 83% out of 100 or 4.5 out of 5 stars, a very sturdy film with nice things, but a rehashed plot you cannot ignore.
