School calendar shortened by a week

Recently, Red Oak ISD announced that the school year will end a week early. While students were originally supposed to leave school June 3, they will now get out May 26.

Assistant Principal Todd Bramwell said the calendar change was due to the Texas Legislature’s decision to change the required time to go to school from days to minutes.

“We were able to cut off some days because of the length of our school days,” Bramwell said.

At this point, administrators say there are no plans to change next year’s calendar.
