Red Oak Middle School competed at UIL competition Feb. 20 in Ennis. The school won first place overall, with 7th grade winning second and 8th grade winning first.
Zion Blair, an 8th grader at ROMS, won three awards: 6th place in modern oratory, 1st place as a group for one-act play and honorable mention in one-act play.
“I was shocked. When they called my name, I was like, ‘Dang, they really called my name,” Blair said.
In 8th grade art, there was a tie for 1st place among three ROMS students: September Daniels, Sierra Ivy and Ellie McLey.
“I was excited, and I felt really proud of my kids to see their hard work pay off,” UIL art coach Malea Jaffe said.
