Staff works to prevent end-of-year fights

Red Oak Junior High staff is taking precautions to prevent end-of-the-year fights.
“As the end of the year [approaches], the staff will be on tight supervision, which encourages teachers to be more vigilant. This means more teachers will be on duty; we call this ‘all hands on deck,’” Assistant Principal Robert Magier said.
Many students and teachers believe that when the end of the year comes close, students began to get in more fights than usual.
“[Kids get into fights at the end of the year because] everybody’s ready to get out,” technology teacher Ruth Ryan said.
Even though the fights are more frequent at the end of the year, it doesn’t mean the fights are getting worse.
“I’ve been working in ROISD for 20 years, and I [have] realized kids are kids, and the fights are about the same every year,” Magier said.
Staff have emphasized that students who get into fights at the end of the year will start next school year in DAEP.
