More changes are on the way for Red Oak Junior High.

A new schedule has officially been approved for next school year, which will make the day seven periods instead of eight.  The new approved schedule means that all classes will be 55 minutes, and ELAR will no longer be a double block.

“I think the new classes are really long,” Anaiyah Stewart said. “But we will have more time to focus and learn.”

Though many students prefer a 45-minute class, like Stewart, they are optimistic about next year’s new schedule.

“I really like the 45 minute class periods personally, but 55 minutes will be okay. I know some kids lose interest in a 45-minute class, though,” Chance Hill said.

While it is clear that ROJH will receive a new name next year due to the addition of 6th graders, it is not yet official what the new name will be. Most, however, are banking on “Red Oak Middle School.”

“The new name is okay, but I like the Junior High, it just makes us seem older or more mature,” Michael Hokett said.

The new name is likely to be officially announced during an upcoming school board meeting.
