According to state test results, 87 percent of ROJH 8th graders passed the STAAR reading test on the first attempt.
The other 13 percent are continuing to blitz with their reading teachers and will retest May 12.
Many 8th grade English teachers saw their students’ scores increase from 7th grade.
“At first, when comparing myself to other teachers on my team, I felt bad about myself,” ELAR teacher Sescelli Redd said. “But then when I looked at how many kids actually progressed and did better than they did last year, I felt so much better.”
