Naughty Dog, the Sony-owned studio that brought us games like “Crash Bandicoot” and “Uncharted,” has now brought us an even more beautiful game: “The Last of Us.” With its gorgeous visuals and fluent gameplay, “The Last of Us” is one of, if not THE, best PlayStation exclusive of all time. With its remastered version, not only do you get to play this beautiful game on next-gen, but it has improved graphics and better gameplay.

“The Last of Us Remastered” offers some great improvements from “The Last of Us” for the PlayStation 3. Although it is the exact same story as the PS3 version, it comes with the DLC “Left Behind.” The graphics are great; in cutscenes, the way the characters’ bodies and lips move with what they are saying makes you feel like they are real people. In one cutscene, a car and the camera are facing you as rain falls, and it looks like real rain.

“The Last of Us” is about two survivors named Joel and Ellie. Twenty years after the apocalypse begins, Joel, a violent survivor, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of the quarantine zone. Cordyceps (based on a real parasite) have taken over and turned people into zombie-like creatures. The game makes you feel like you are in an actual apocalypse.

With most escort games, you have to stick with an annoying character for the entirety of the game, which can make you wonder why you are even playing it. “The Last of Us” is the complete opposite. As Joel escorts Ellie out of the quarantine zone, you actually connect with the characters; in fact, the relationship between the two main characters is where the game really shines. Naughty Dog delivers a great father/daughter relationship, which makes you care if something happens to the duo.

“The Last of Us” also has great gameplay. A lot of people dislike crafting in most games because it takes way too long. In this game, you collect your scraps (like scissors, tape, and rags) and you create your weapons. If you run out, you just collect more. The molotov and the revolver are arguably the best weapons in the game. “The Last of Us” does have “Uncharted”-style annoyances, where you have someone right in a headshot and then they randomly bend down to tie their shoes or something.

But in the end, “The Last of Us” is everything you want a game to be and more, especially with the PlayStation 4 remastered features. The remastered allows you to use the touchpad, motion sensor and light bar to your advantage.  There were many other games that were expected to be game of the year, and then “The Last of Us” came out and took the honors. “The Last of Us Remastered” is a complete masterpiece.
